Nico Williams Targeted with Racial Abuse during Atletico vs Athletic Match

The La Liga match between Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao was abruptly disrupted in the face of alleged racist slurs aimed at Nico Williams, an Athletic winger. The incident occurred when Williams heard offensive remarks from some spectators in the Metropolitano Stadium, prompting a temporary hold on the game.

In response, his elder brother, Inaki Williams, alerted referee Martinez Munuera. The referee prompted the stadium announcer to recite the league's stand against all forms of racism, xenophobia, and violent behavior.

Home side captain Koke and defender Jose Maria Gimenez called on their supporters, mostly those in the Frente Atletico ultras section, to halt the racially discriminative chants.
